I haven\u2019t read about other people with this exact problem, so I\u2019m posting my solution in the hopes of helping some other poor soul.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Problem<\/font><\/font><\/b><\/p>\n

We had significant performance issues with 2.4GHz and 5.0 GHz wifi connections on our Android phones.  <\/span>The symptom was clicking on any link required over a minute to render the page.  <\/span>Worse case was as much as 2-3 minutes for shortened links (regardless of short link provider).  <\/span>I tried installing Android based proxy servers and DNS servers.  <\/span>Also checked to make sure I used good DNS servers, and installed Microsoft and Linux DNS server on my network configured to use root instead of a forwarder. Nothing improved wifi performance.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Solution<\/font><\/font><\/b><\/p>\n

Installed Tomato for the Netgear R6250.  <\/span>Install details below, and after configuring the Wi-Fi, the upgrade resolved all the Android performance problems.  <\/span>I\u2019m familiar with the Tomato firmware and ran it on several older Linksys devices (WRT-54G and others), and I\u2019m very impressed with the release for the R6250.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

My install process is below.  <\/span>Software downloaded from AdvancedTomato – <\/font><\/font>https:\/\/advancedtomato.com\/downloads\/router\/r6250<\/font><\/font><\/a>

<\/p>\n

1.<\/font><\/font>       <\/font><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/span>Using the Netgear interface perform the following tasks:<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

a.<\/font><\/font>       <\/font><\/font><\/span><\/span><\/span>Backup R6250 configuration and save it in a reference rolder<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

b.<\/font><\/font>       <\/font><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/span>Restore default settings<\/font><\/span> for the router using<\/font><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

c.<\/font><\/font>       <\/font><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/span>Use existing interface, install the Tomato \u201cinitial\u2019 binary using the GUI<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2.<\/font><\/font>       <\/font><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/span>Log in to tomato and re-flash router using AIO.trx file<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

3.<\/font><\/font>       <\/font><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/span>Erase NV ram \u2013 you can do this by clicking the \u201cerase nvram\u201d box when you load the AIO binaries<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

4.<\/font><\/font>       <\/font><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/span>The Tomato Flashing Guide expects the wireless will not be detected after reboot. <\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

a.<\/font><\/font>       <\/font><\/font><\/span><\/span><\/span>The Wifi appeared to be working correctly, for me.<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

b.<\/font><\/font>       <\/font><\/font><\/span><\/span><\/span>I restarted anyway, all was well<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

5.<\/font><\/font>       <\/font><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/span>Wireless was detected and working correctly<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

6.<\/font><\/font>       <\/font><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/span>Read Tomato documentation and configure your system in a secure fashion<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Cable Provider:                 <\/span>Comcast, Performance Tier service, 25\/6 Mbps
Cable Modem:  <\/span>                <\/span>Motorola Surfboard SB6121
Wireless Router:               <\/span>Netgear R6250, native firmware v. 1.0.3.6<\/font><\/font>
